Open Access

The goal of this LibGuide is to provide you with a repository of trusted open educational resources, to supplement the materials we have available in our library's collection.

The goal of open access resources is to provide you with free, unrestricted access to thousands of materials that may have otherwise been locked behind a paywall or require you to be a student at a certain university. Each of the links below are collections or listings of Open Access Resources.

Though these repositories aim to provide free academic resources, open access extends to non-scholarly materials such as novels, music, and movies.

Textbooks

LibreTexts
LibreTexts has several open-access textbooks that span 14 subject areas.
Milne Open Textbooks
Milne Library Publishing at SUNY Geneseo manages and maintains Milne Open Textbooks, a catalog of open textbooks authored and peer-reviewed by SUNY faculty and staff.
OAPEN
OAPEN provides access to thousands of academic ebooks in several languages spanning over 1,900 subject areas.
Note: not all materials in this resource are OER. Check the licensing of each material before use.
OER Commons - Open Textbooks
This open textbook resource has hundreds of textbooks spanning twelve subject areas, including law, social sciences, and business and communications. Many of these textbooks have been published recently (last 10 years).

eBooks

Cornell Open
Cornell Open has a variety of open-access nonfiction ebooks spanning 26 subjects.
HathiTrust Digital Library
HathiTrust houses over 18 million items--both scholarly and leisure--from 60 academic and research libraries. They provide reading access to the fullest extent of US and international copyright laws.

Oxford Open Access - eBooks
Oxford houses over 400 free and open-access books and 5,600 book chapters in social sciences, arts and humanities, law, science and mathematics, and medicine and health. Their open-access journals can be found under the "Journals & Journal Articles" tab.
Project Gutenberg
Project Gutenberg is an online repository of free eBooks and audiobooks with a focus on older works and those whose US copyright has expired.
SpringerOpen - eBooks
SpringerOpen provides access to journals as well as eBooks and select chapters at no cost. You can find the link to their open-access journals under the "Journals & Journal Articles" tab.
